How to play Fractured Choices

Create your hero, read the scene, and choose what to do next. This browser text RPG combines a fantasy adventure with character builds and dice-based battles.

One turn, start to finish

Follow an example turn from Verdant March, from your action to its outcome.

  1. 1You say what you do

    Sneak past the goblin

Sneaking calls for an Agility check of normal difficulty.

Outside combat, tap a suggestion or type what you want to try. If your action calls for a stat check, your character’s abilities help decide whether it succeeds.

  2. 2The dice roll

    AGI checkd20 14 + 1 = 15 vs 12PASS
    d20 roll
    14
    Agility bonus
    +1
    Needed for normal
    12
    Your total
    15, you pass

Roll a twenty-sided die, add your stat bonus, and compare the total with the target. Each result is saved before the next scene is written.

  3. 3Read the outcome

You slip through the hedgerow without snapping a twig. On the far side, a goblin is eating a stolen pie.

Read how your action played out, then choose your next move. The story carries forward a summary and notes from your adventure.

Dice and stats

Roll a d20, add your stat bonus, and meet or beat the target.

How hard is it?

DifficultyTargetFor example
trivial5Climbing a low fence
easy9Haggling with a friendly merchant
normal12Sneaking past a goblin
hard16Leaping a collapsing bridge
heroic21Talking a dragon out of its lunch

A natural 20 always succeeds and a natural 1 always fails, whatever the target.

What your stats do

STR
Weapon attacks and many fighting skills.
AGI
Defense, fleeing, and aiming bows and daggers.
INT
Spells, heals, and the size of your MP pool.
VIT
Your HP, so you stay standing longer.
LUK
At 14 or more, a natural 19 crits as well as a 20.

Every stat starts at 10, which adds nothing. Every two points above 10 add 1 to the roll, so a 12 adds 1 and a 14 adds 2. Some gifts add bonuses of their own.

Find your character class

Choose from six classes, each with its own starting skills and a free move you can use in any fight. Fight with steel, cast spells, or rely on speed. At levels 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 a new skill comes your way: some are fixed, and some let you pick one of two in the Status window.

Choose your gift from the goddess

Nimvali offers three Unique Skills at random. Keep one for the whole adventure: a little extra luck, a useful talent, or a different way to build your hero.

  • AppraisalRarity 3 of 3

The goddess lets you see the true nature of things: foes, treasures, and the occasional suspicious stew.

  • Item BoxRarity 2 of 3

A pocket of space that always seems to hold a few spare potions, and tends to attract more loot.

  • Hero's GrowthRarity 3 of 3

Every hard-won lesson sinks in deeper. You level faster than anyone has a right to.

  • Lucky StarRarity 2 of 3

Coins land your way and close calls miss by a hair. Fortune simply likes you.

  • Iron BodyRarity 2 of 3

A sturdy frame blessed by Nimvali herself. Bruises fade before they finish forming.

  • Mana SpringRarity 2 of 3

A quiet well of magic hums inside you, refilling after every victory and every road you walk.

  • Sword SaintRarity 3 of 3

Your strikes find the gaps in any guard. Critical hits come far more often.

  • Golden TouchRarity 1 of 3

Whatever you sell, find, or are paid for turns out twice as shiny.

  • Swift FeetRarity 1 of 3

Running away is a fine tactic, and you are very good at it. You also run a little faster.

Before you start

What is an isekai text RPG?

Isekai stories send someone from an ordinary life into another world. Here, you create that character and play through written scenes, choosing actions and building your skills as you go.

Do I need to download anything?

No download is needed. Create an account, verify your email, and play in your browser. Your adventure is saved to your account.

Can I type my own actions?

Outside combat, you can type an action or tap a suggestion. Actions can lead to conversations or stat checks within the game’s rules. In combat, choose from your attacks, your class’s free move, class skills, items, and escape options.

Does the game use AI?

Yes. AI writes the scenes and character dialogue in response to your actions. The game rules determine dice rolls, damage, rewards, and progression before the narration is written.

What happens if the story fails to load?

Your turn and its results are already saved. Retry the narration to continue; it does not reroll the dice or use another daily turn.

Is there a play limit?

Yes. Story turns count toward your limits, shown while you play: a monthly allowance, and on the free plan a daily limit too (see Pricing). A saved turn counts even if its narration fails to load. Retrying that narration does not use another turn.

Is there more to do than fight?

Yes. Each town has a shop for potions and gear, and a guild board whose quests raise your rank. Roads lead to other towns, each region has a dungeon with a boss on its last floor, and a higher rank opens the harder roads and dungeons. Bosses telegraph their heaviest blow, so you can guard against it. Once you reach a dungeon’s rest room, a retreat is not the end: your next visit resumes just past it until the boss falls.

Can I save my progress and play another character?

You can have up to three characters per account. Each adventure saves after every turn, so you can leave mid-fight and return later.

What can I play today?

Create a character, explore, fight turn-based battles, collect loot, and level up. Town shops, guild quests and ranks, travel between towns, and boss dungeons are available. Start in Verdant March or Saltwind Coast and earn access to Emberreach Highlands. Recruit up to three companions at town guilds to fight beside you. The farther regions are planned.

What kind of content should I expect?

There's no content rating. The story is meant to be safe for work: fantasy adventure, peril and the occasional flustered romance. The AI follows your lead, so it can drift if you push it, though it usually declines or steers toward less explicit language. If a panel goes too far, use Report.

The rules are fair. The story is yours. Shall we begin?
